LINUX SYSTEM ENGINEER

The job

As a Linux System Engineer at ASP, you will be in charge of building, managing and supporting complex customer environments build on leading edge technologies including Nextgen firewalling, VPN infrastructure, forward and reverse proxy, Application Delivery, Email and Web Security, endpoint protection, Wireless networks.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining servers using the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system. Hence advanced knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is required for this position.
  • Configuring and maintain successful backups & patching of our customer Linux servers.
  • Maintain and monitor the Linux servers we manage for our customers – incl. performance.
  • Participating in defining open-source hardware and software requirements, acquisition, installation and configuration.
  • Incident and service request handling in accordance with our internal procedures & processes.
  • Implementation of projects for our customers within the negotiated scope taking into consideration technical possibilities, respecting agreed milestones and deadlines.
  • Participating in the documentation of activities, system changes, procedures, policies and standards for the Linux architecture.
  • Work directly with engineering teams to help them incorporate Docker into their software deployment workflows.
  • Remaining up to date with technology evolutions and making sure your knowledge remains ahead of the curve.
  • Gain experience, become an expert in your field and guide your colleagues with their complex technical questions.
  • Ownership for the client relationship: you are recognized by the client as a business partner, from whom to seek advise.
  • Support the sales team by contributing to the pre-sales process to conduct technological discussions with our clients.
  • Be part of our 24×7 on-call support team.

  • Speak fluently English, Dutch and/or French. (written and spoken)
  • Master or Bachelor in IT

Technical expertise in at least 2 of the following domains: 

  • Expert analysis and support of production servers utilizing the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system
  • Experience with systems automation, deployment and configuration management tools such as Red Hat Ansible automation platform, Terraform, Puppet, Chef, Red Hat Satelite, Jenkins/Hudson, RPM/Yum, SaltStack or CFEngine
  • Understanding of ITIL concepts like incident management, change management, problem management, etc.
  • You have achieved Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification or Linux Professional Institute (LPIC) Certification, or you have the knowledge to get certified in your first months at ASP.
  • In depth Mysql, Apache knowledge, including clustering and high availability.
  • Advanced experience and knowledge in scripting languages such as Python, Perl & Bash. Ability to quickly write/execute scripts to extract data for developing or troubleshooting purposes.
  • Experience with enterprise management of Linux and heterogeneous environments
  • Good understanding of virtualization platforms beyond VMware such as Citrix, KVM and Microsoft Azure
